Visitors entering through one of the ancient gates can cross the remains of ancient roads and admire houses, shops, the Forum, sacred areas, thermal complexes, theaters, amphitheater, monumental tombs and much more.<\/p>\n Herculaneum<\/strong> is a famous archaeological site located about 10 km from Naples on the eastern side of Vesuvius and close to the sea. In 62 AD a strong earthquake destroyed many factories and seventeen years later (79 AD), the terrible eruption of Vesuvius completely buried the city. The excavations offer visitors the beauty of private houses and villas that still retain charred furniture, organic finds and multiple wooden elements belonging to the structural and architectural parts of the buildings.<\/p>\n At the center of the modern city of Torre Annunziata are the excavations of\u00a0Oplontis,<\/strong> consisting of 2 ancient villas, of which only the Poppea villa can currently be visited.
